Our Beliefs & Core Values

What we believe shapes who we are, how we live, and why we do what we do.

Gateway Church is part of The Wesleyan Church, a Christian movement rooted in Scripture, shaped by God’s grace, and committed to helping people know and follow Jesus.

Our beliefs are grounded in the historic Christian faith and expressed through the Articles of Religion of The Wesleyan Church.

We believe in one God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God, fully God and fully human, who came to rescue and restore us through His life, death, and resurrection.

We believe the Bible is God’s Word and the foundation for our faith, teaching, and way of life. We believe every person is deeply loved by God and created in His image.

We believe sin has broken our relationship with God, with others, and with creation, but through Jesus we can be forgiven, made new, and restored.

We believe God’s grace reaches toward us before we even know how to reach toward Him, invites us into salvation, and continues to transform us as we follow Jesus.

We believe the Holy Spirit empowers believers to live lives of love, holiness, service, and witness.

We believe the Church is called to make disciples, care for people, serve the community, and reflect Jesus in the world.

The Bible is God’s holy Word.

We believe Scripture uniquely and faithfully reveals God’s plan for His people and teaches us how to live that plan out, both individually and together as a church family.

At Gateway Church, our beliefs, practices, priorities, and mission are to be anchored in the clear teaching of Scripture.

We do not want to be led simply by preference, tradition, opinion, or culture. We want to be shaped by God’s Word and guided by the Holy Spirit as we follow Jesus.

Scripture is not merely information to study. It is truth to receive, wisdom to live by, and a story that points us to Jesus.

Jesus Christ is the defining centre of God’s will and God’s relationship with all humankind.

In Jesus, we find new life, forgiveness, hope, and the clearest example of what it means to live in love, holiness, humility, truth, and grace.

People made new in Christ find Him to be the source of faith, hope, and love — not only in the inner life of the heart, but also in our outward actions as we serve a world desperate for hope and life.

At Gateway Church, we want to become more like Jesus in the way we worship, lead, serve, forgive, speak, make decisions, and love people.

Christlikeness is not about religious performance. It is about being transformed by God’s grace so that our lives increasingly reflect the heart and character of Jesus.

We believe salvation is a gift of God’s grace received through faith in Jesus Christ.

God’s grace reaches toward us before we are even aware of Him, awakens us to our need, invites us to respond in faith, forgives us, makes us new, and continues to transform us as we follow Jesus.

In the Wesleyan tradition, grace does not only pardon us from sin; grace also changes us. God’s desire is not simply to forgive our past, but to form us into people of holy love.

Holy living is not about pride, legalism, or pretending to be perfect. It is about learning to love God fully and love others faithfully through the power of the Holy Spirit.

We believe Jesus saves, restores, and transforms.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, who is fully God and actively at work in the world and in the lives of believers.

The Holy Spirit convicts us of sin, draws us toward Jesus, gives new life, assures us of God’s grace, guides us into truth, forms Christlike character within us, and empowers us to live as witnesses of Jesus.

We are not called to follow Jesus in our own strength. God gives His Spirit to help us pray, grow, serve, forgive, endure, love, and live with courage and purpose.

At Gateway Church, we desire to be a Spirit-led people who listen for God’s leading and respond with faith and obedience.

Making disciples is a clear mandate from Jesus.

A disciple is someone who follows Jesus, learns from Jesus, becomes more like Jesus, and helps others follow Jesus too.

At Gateway Church, disciple-making includes evangelism, spiritual growth, biblical teaching, prayer, Life Groups, serving, baptism, worship, and learning to live faithfully in everyday life.

We want to help people move from curiosity to faith, from faith to growth, and from growth to fruitful service and witness.

Discipleship is not only a program. It is the way of life Jesus calls us into.

We believe leadership in the church should reflect the heart and character of Jesus.

At Gateway Church, we respect the leadership God has placed within the church, while also recognizing that the authority and effectiveness of spiritual leadership is not primarily about title, position, control, or status.

Healthy spiritual leadership is earned through humility, faithfulness, wisdom, love, obedience, integrity, and a willing heart to serve God and people gladly.

We desire to be leaders in serving.

Whether someone leads from the platform, in a Life Group, with children, on a ministry team, behind the scenes, or around a board table, leadership at Gateway should help people encounter Jesus and grow in trust, health, and mission.

There is intrinsic value in every person because every person is created in the image of God and deeply loved by Him.

Biblical unity becomes all the more important and beautiful in light of the wide-ranging differences in personalities, cultures, races, languages, talents, backgrounds, stories, and perspectives.

Unity does not mean everyone is the same. It means we are learning to love one another in Christ, honour one another, listen well, serve together, and pursue the mission of Jesus as one church family.

Finding unity and mutual love in Christ helps eliminate devaluation, division, and harm toward one another.

At Gateway Church, we want to be a community where people are welcomed with grace, treated with dignity, and invited to belong, grow, and serve.

We believe the Church is the body of Christ, called to worship God, proclaim the good news of Jesus, make disciples, care for one another, and serve the world.

Church is not simply a building or a Sunday event. It is a people called by God to live as a faithful, loving, Spirit-led community.

At Gateway Church, we gather on Sundays for worship, Scripture, prayer, and encouragement. We also gather throughout the week in Life Groups where relationships deepen, faith grows, and people learn to follow Jesus together.

We are not simply trying to attend church. We are learning to be the church.

Our beliefs and core values are not just words on a page. They shape the kind of church we are becoming.

They guide how we teach, worship, lead, serve, care for people, make decisions, disciple believers, welcome newcomers, and live as witnesses of Jesus in Arnprior and the Ottawa Valley.

We want to be a church that is rooted in Scripture, centred on Jesus, dependent on the Holy Spirit, committed to making disciples, humble in leadership, and united in love.

Above all, we want our life together to reflect the hope and holiness of Jesus Christ.
