Our Core Values

In order to accomplish our mission statement, a set of core values were established to serve as guard rails and guideposts on our journey. They remind us of what is important and keep us rallied around a common vision. These values represent what is most important to us as a church: 

We value the Presence: As a Presence-Driven church, we value and pursue God’s Presence and an intimate relationship with the Father above everything else.

We value Life Groups: As a Church IN small groups, we value the importance of getting together with people we like to worship a God we love. Therefore we seek to build a community that fosters practical love, hospitality, kindness, gentleness and self-control, lived out primarily in small groups. (Acts 2:42-47)

We value the Bible: We believe that to know God as fully as we can we need to learn about Him primarily through His written revelation, the Bible.

We value all individuals: We believe every Christian has spiritual gifts and a call to minister as a full participant in expanding God’s kingdom. (1 Peter 2:4-5, 9-10)

We value authenticity: We want to live who we say we are, yet with humility that precludes pride, which leads to hypocrisy. (Matthew 6:5-6; Philippians 2:3-8; James 4:6; 1 Peter 5:5-6)

We value discipleship: God’s great desire to bring all people into a growing relationship with Himself through His son, Jesus. We live to make as many disciples (Christ-followers) as we can and to bring them into Christian maturity through proclaiming a simple gospel with demonstrations of power. (Matthew 28:19-20; 1 Corinthians 2:1-5)

We value the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit: We will seek to live our lives directed by God, centred in Christ and empowered by the Spirit. Matthew 6:33 “Seek first the kingdom of God and all these things will be added to you.” Engaged in Community We will love God and our neighbours as Christ has taught us: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind’. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’” (Matthew 22:36-40)

We value Grace and Love: We will invite people, not matter what their story, into our family, not by burdening them, judging them or threatening them, but with love. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30).

We value Time, Talent and Treasure: We believe that our greatest resources are our Time, our Talents, and our Treasures (money). We will generously support the vision and mission of Gateway Church with our time, our talent and our treasure. “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:21).

We value Relevance: We will speak and act in ways that people understand. “I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some.” (1 Corinthians 9: 22).

We value Action: We will move beyond words to action. “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20).

We value Innovation: We Lead through Innovation We will dream big, take risks, work hard, and not settle for mediocre living. “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward.” (Colossians 3:23).
