Matthew 1:17 - Genealogy
the generations are arranged to make them cycle in equal groups of fourteen generations - three of them - from Abraham to the Christ. The lineage does not begin with Adam, but Abraham. It is not complete in the sense of literally accounting for every link, but this was common in genealogies in ancient times because they were designed to communicate a message themselves. In this case, the focus is on the movement through prophetic history in epochs of Divine history, from Abraham, the recipient of prophetic promise of blessing to the nations through a lineage of faith, through the kingdom seed in David and to the revelation of the fulfillment of that prophetic/kingdom destiny for Israel, and to the nations, in Jesus, God’s Christ.
